In the advanced class we seek a deeper understanding
of structure and function by exploring neural sheaths,
visceral wrappings, muscular fascia, ligaments and membranes,
which influence the behavior of the joints, and how all
of these physical realities impact global patterns of
organization, function and dysfunction. Studying these
anatomical realities serves the larger goal of being
able to perceive at deeper and deeper levels in order
to support our clients being more fully who they are.
In the class we will:
• Reinforce and deepen our ability to perceive and be present with others
• Review the principles and internal logic of Dr. Rolf’s recipe
• Refine our ability to assess, diagnose, strategize and evaluate by utilizing,
structural, functional and energetic approaches
• Learn an efficient, effective and reliable way to answer the questions, “Where
do I start?; what do I do next?; and when am I finished?”
Ray McCall has 30 years
experience as a Certified Rolfer. He was certified
as a Rolfing instructor in 1997 and teaches Basic and
Advanced classes in the States and overseas. He has
studied to the instructor level in Craniosacral Biodynamics.
His current fascination is the energetic taxonomy and
its appropriate application to Rolfing Structural Integration.
Jonathan Martine was
certified as a Rolfer in 1992 and completed his advanced
Rolfing certification in 1997. While remaining grounded
in Dr. Rolf’s work, Jon has studied working with:
the viscera (organs), the neural (nerve) system and
the cranium. His teaching is influenced by a variety
of Structural Integration approaches, Rolf Movement,
Physical Therapy, Pilates, Osteopathy, Somatic Experiencing
and rehabilitative sciences.
Dates:
Phase I: April 12 – 30,
2010 Phase II: September
6 – 16, 2010
Jan will be assisted by Ellen Freed and Cosper Scafidi.
The focus of the class will be on how the cranium and
the pelvis are unified thru the axial complex and the
pre vertebral visceral tube. We will look at the classic
7th hour with eyes for the patterns we hope to effect.
We will spend the first two days in a study of the common
strain patterns that a Rolfer encounters in the cranium.
The third day will highlight the pelvis and how to support
the upper pole work there. The fourth and final day will
integrate how to practically work with the relationships
of the cranium to the pelvis, in the context of a series
of Rolfing sessions. There will be meticulous supervision
of the hands on practical work as students exchange sessions.
There will be instructor demonstrations. The students
will come away with a greater skill in the vital processes
of head and pelvic work.
This class will be open to Rolfers and IASI members.

Description: This five day workshop will present the basics of
the theory of Tonic Function in the light of the 10 session
Rolfing series.
We will deepen our understanding of such ideas as:
how perception and the way we orient determine the
way we move,
how to use the moment of the client’s pre-movement
to help him/her change their movement patterns without
having to force or effort
and how to effect our client’s coordination
through the goals of each session in the 10 session
series.
We will learn and practice movement interventions that
relate to each of the 10 sessions.
Lael Katharine Keen is a Rolfing and
Rolfing Movement Integration Teacher for the Rolf Institute.
She has studied with Hubert Godard since 2000. She also
teaches Somatic Experiencing (Peter Levine’s trauma
work) for the Foundation for Human Enrichment, and has
studied and taught Ki-Aikido for the last 33 years. She
is fascinated with movement and the process through which
each of us becomes more truly ourselves through uncovering
the movement which is our most intrinsic and authentic
potential.

Description: Ida Rolf created a recipe for teaching students how
to integrate human structure. The basis of Dr. Rolf’s
work, however, lies in her vision of healthy movement
in gravity. This natural birthright of movement makes
Rolf’s work possible.
In this workshop we move, and we find the pre-movement
for the fundamental elements of structural integration.
We gain an appreciation for the order in which these
movements are addressed in the SI series. We experience
how these movements live in each of us as natural responses
to the moment to moment demands of human life. We examine
the perceptive and coordinative details that either support
or prevent integration—the freedom
to adapt to changing demands without thinking about it.

This workshop builds on the workshops given by Monica Caspari in Austin,
TX in 06 and 07. Functional tools for all parts of the recipe, the science
and practice of core stability, self care for you and your clients, opportunity
to clarify the power of the “movement brain” in SI and daily
life. Open to practitioners new to this material.

Shoulder Girdle: This class will continue
the exploration of asymmetrical patterns. We will
look at tilt and shift in the shoulder girdle. We
will also look at other components of the thorax that
prevent full balance and integration in the upper body.
Back and Neck :This
class is an opportunity to learn a soft tissue approach
to spinal biomechanics. Misalignments of vertebrae in
the spine and neck follow consistent, predictable patterns
in relationship with asymmetries throughout the body.
The three-dimensional anatomy and spinal biomechanics
involved in asymmetric patterns will be taught to include
rib and anterior fascia.
