Speaker Biographies

Sandra Blakeslee & Matt Blakeslee
Authors of “The Body Has a Mind of Its Own”

Sandra and son Matthew are the authors of The Body Has a Mind of Its Own (2008), which explores the neuroscience of the mind-body connection and the breakthrough technology of body mapping.

Sandra is a freelance science writer and science correspondent for The New York Times, with a specialty in cognitive neuroscience. She is co-author, with V.S. Ramachandran, of Phantoms in the Brain: Probing the Mysteries of the Human Mind (1999).

Matthew trained as a cognitive scientist and went on to become a freelance science writer. His passion is writing about the brain and human behavior.

Hubert Godard
Internationally Renowned Rolf Movement Instructor

Formerly a professional dancer, Hubert has made somatic research a lifelong practice. His particular focus has been functional rehabilitation, biomechanics, and the nervous system’s function in motricity.

Since becoming a Rolfer, Hubert has been teaching his own movement work and his theory of Tonic Function through the RISI. Since 1988 he has been working as a researcher for the National Institute for Cancer Research.

In 1990 Hubert was appointed director of the Dance and Movement Analysis Department at the
Paris University.
